This family will always have a special place in my heart. Over 5 years ago, I had my very first paid newborn session…. and they were twins! A few of the images from their session remain some of my favorites even now. Just look at this cuteness! We’ve done a session every year since then and it’s always so much fun to see them again. We had an absolutely beautiful night and sunset in Palos Verdes this year and they are always dressed so perfectly for the setting. Couldn’t have asked for more!
The holiday season is a busy one for all of us, but especially family photographers! I love the sessions every weekend and even sneaking some in during the week. So many beautiful families all dolled up in beautiful clothes. So many smiles and laughs. I love seeing my images on their photo cards when clients send me a holiday card! But, what I don’t love is that I never seem to find the time to share those images here. I’ve decided to do a few blog posts well after the fact to show those sessions some blog love!
Here are a few of my favorites from my mini sessions back in October!
Once a year mini sessions are coming VERY soon!! Most spots have been pre-booked by former clients, but there are a few sessions still available. Please call or email asap to reserve your time!
I am beyond thrilled to have these images of my little people. I absolutely can not wait to get them printed big and up on my walls so I can stare at them all day! I love color and it’s so hard for me to convert an image to black and white- I hate to lose that color! I’m so thankful to a photographer friend who inspired me to take these though and to do them in black and white. Without the color, the focus is truly on their sweet little faces…the background fades to nothing. No distractions. Just those open, thoughtful and trusting eyes I stare into when cuddling in bed at night. The sweet little lips and cheeks I cover in kisses. The smiles that make my heart happy. I’m kind of bursting with love right now. (I won’t be printing the text for the wall images- just wanted to document some of their personality here for the blog and my future family albums!)
I had my annual fall mini sessions last weekend and am so excited to share a few favorites here. I’m doing my best not to share too many family shots, as I don’t want to ruin Christmas cards. It’s amazing the variety that can come out of 4 sessions back to back in the same location! (Or in this case, right across the street)
Only 1 spot remains for my 2014 mini sessions on October 25th! If there is enough interest, I am considering opening a second date in November. Please call or email for details!
Once you get to your session, everyone is dressed and hair/makeup is finished, you should have FUN! But, I absolutely understand the stress that can come with choosing your family’s wardrobe. I personally drive myself crazy with the decision every year! For a good month before our session, our master bedroom floor is covered in various options for each person. I lay them all out next to each other, complete with leggings, shoes, jewelry and hair accessories. I buy several options for everyone, only to return 90% of what I bought! And this is after I plan it out in photoshop first. That’s all to assure you, I get it. I really do! But, while it can be stressful, I’ll also admit I love it! It’s fun for me to play fashion designer and put together a look that I think will photograph well, keeping it as timeless as possible and also showcasing each individual personality. I do my best to choose something for each person that he/she will feel good and be comfortable in. I thought I’d start a blog post series on some of the looks I’ve imagined for different settings. This first one was done with a certain family in mind. We have scheduled their session for a nature preserve. Lots of tall grass and pretty greenery. They have boy/girl 3 year old twins. The photoshop job on this look isn’t perfect- I’ll save the perfect, detailed work for your gallery- but, you definitely get the idea! For this look, I “shopped” at Nordstrom, Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Tea Collection and Matilda Jane.
I’m planning to do a few more of these boards in the next week or two. Are there any color combinations, location choices or clothing brands you’d like to see featured? Leave a comment and I’ll do my best! Clients, if you’d like me to work on a board for you, please send me an email with some specific information about what you like/where you shop!
